Here are some common questions about OCD, anxiety, panic disorders, phobias, and our treatment methodologies.

  • IF I WASH MY HANDS A LOT, DO I HAVE OCD?"
In today's environment with COVID-19 being a major concern, it is understandable that people wash their hands more. The behavior itself is not the tell tale sign of a major anxiety issue like OCD. It is the behavior combined with how you feel that is the issue. If you feel overwhelmed by negative, intrusive thoughts and you are trying to cope with these thoughts through habits, then you should probably schedule some time with us.
  • HOW DOES EXPOSURE AND RESPONSE PREVENTION THERAPY WORK?
Exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP) is conducted by trained therapists in a controlled setting with a patient. The therapist will help a patient confront their fears and help them eliminate compulsive reactions and negative thoughts in response to the fear. ERP helps people control and mute anxiety associated with fears so that the anxiety is more manageable. ERP has been proven to be extremely effective in treating OCD.

  • I DON'T HAVE ANY PHYSICAL COMPULSIONS.  COULD I HAVE OCD IF I AM JUST STRUGGLING WITH COGNITIVE COMPULSIONS OR RUMINATION?
Absolutely. While it’s most common for us to recognize overt compulsions, such as hand washing and locking doors; cognitive compulsions such as checking, counting and rumination can also be a sign of OCD. If you think you may be suffering from OCD, we can help.
