Phobias

Black and Yellow Spider

A phobia is described as an unrealistic, excessive, and unreasonable fear of an object, activity or situation. Reactions to these feared stimuli are typically out of proportion and can cause individuals to avoid feared stimuli altogether or activities where those stimuli may potentially be present.  They may become extremely agitated, anxious, and/or upset when faced with these things.  How they react – their thoughts, feelings and physical symptoms – in addition to any avoidant behaviors they exhibit when you are confronted with the thing they fear can be an indicator that they are experiencing a phobia.  If you or someone you know is finding a fear interfering with their ability to fully enjoy life, it may be time to reach out for help.
